Simple Tips and tricks to make life simple!

Ever have a moment where you wished there was something simpler to everyday life tasks at hand? Well here I have a few for you and some examples… try them you’d be amazed at how much LESS you have to worry about or do in order to accomplish a task.

Got a bucket that won’t fit into your sink? I bet you have a dust pan… HUH? You must be saying… well here’s what you do, in the bathroom sink, put the dust pan (wide end) under the tap and the bucket on the floor, aim the slim end of the dust pan at the bucket and turn on the tap the water should follow the natural flow and if your aim is good it will land right into the bucket.

Drilling a hole in the wall? Use a sticky note under the hole to catch all the dust and save your time sweeping up a mess. Just fold the sticky note in half and place the sticky side on the wall with the ridge catching the mess.

Do you have old wrapping paper? Use a toilet paper tube. Just slide it over the wrapping paper and if the wrapping paper is bigger than the tube then just cut the tube length wise and slide the paper into it that way.

here's a simple and neat way to keep your wraping paper from having to be tossed away!

Need to hold a nail but don’t want to smack your fingers? Use a comb, place the nail in between the teeth of the comb lay against the wall and hammer away!

An OUCH free waqy to nail in tiny nails 🙂

I’m sure you hate that tangle of cords behind the computer as much as I do, so label the cords so you know you’re pulling out the right one! Use bread tabs! Hook them onto your cords and write the name of the cord on it!

never unplug the wrong cord again with this trick!

Want to put something in a container but don’t have one? I’m sure you have a baggie and a pop bottle cut of the top part of the pop bottle (only the threaded part the cap goes on down about 1/2 CM from thelittle ridge,) put the food your storing into a baggie and push the open end of the baggie through the pop bottle opening then screw on the lid!!!

A "bagged" container alternitive!

Have a label that just won’t come off? Place water in the bottle/container and place in the freezer once frozen take it out and let it thaw… as it’s thawing the label usually sides right off!

Got a pair of dull scissors? I suppose you have an old ceramic mug? Or masons jar right? Well take your scissors and on the lip of the jar/mug, “cut” the rim and it will sharpen the scissors!

So there’s old wallpaper that won’t come down? How about fabric softener! Soak down with 1 part softener to two parts water and wait 3 mins peels off like a dream!

Do you have baby bottles and a ton of other things to serialize but no time to do it and the pot of hot water sitting in the pot to cool after? Kind of sucks… make life easier… use a LARGE freezer bag!! Confused? Well let’s make it easy… add 2 table spoons of water to the bottom of the bag, place all items you want to serialize (they should already be cleaned prior in hot soapy water) into the bag seal the bag up except for a 1 cm gap, place all of this into the micro wave and nuke it for 1 min… Volia! Same method that’s used in many hospitals for medical equipment!

Pet hair on your furniture, if you have rubber gloves or even rubber bands put the gloves on or wrap the bands around a small book or a deck of cards and rub the fur right off your furniture!

Have rugs whose corners curl up and trip you and your kids? How about ruling over them with a few rulers! Yep, rulers work wonders, take 2 and place them at a 90 degree angle under your rug you can either use double sided sticky tape to hold them into place, or invisible thread and tie them into place or even a few dabs of hot glue!

Uh oh! Kids got a hold of a permante marker and it’s on the floors or walls? An easy fix is as close as your fingertips.. Use nail polish remover! Yes, this wonderful cheap product can remove most inks (it IS heavy duty thou so use it carefully!) Dab do not scrub with it. This WILL take off water based paints if on walls so test in an inconspicuous spot before trying this, otherwise go ahead and watch the ink disappears like magic! This trick also works to remove silicon/caulking from ones fingers as well… pour into your hands and rub, and then wash as normal with soap and water!

Now there’s another trick for Ink/blood and other hard to remove stains as well and believe it or not it’s in your fridge. Milk is an AMAZING stain remover! I know weird eh, but try it. Take your stained item and soak it in milk, the older, deeper the stain the longer and possible repeat processes you’ll have to try.  For the most part your stain will disappear within 1-2 tries;  just wash as normal after soaking the piece of clothing.

Water ring on your coffee table because uncle bob didn’t use a coaster? Easily remedied with toothpaste! Put a bit of non-gel toothpaste on a soft cloth and rub the affected area for a few mins and then buff clean, if this fails to work try full fat mayo and let it sit for about 30 mins and wipe clean 🙂 once the water mark is gone… seal your table with furniture wax!

Got a sweaty toilet tank? There are a few tricks that work to fix this issue… 1. How about a fashion statement? Cover the tank with a terry cloth cover easily made from a towel. 2. Try Styrofoam in the insides of the tank this creates a temperature barrier between the cold water and the warmer room or add some hot water, using a special valve you can buy at most hardware stores, called an antisweat valve this will bring hot water from the main line to your toilet preventing the condesenation from building up on the bowl as the water inside is the same temperature as the outside of the bowl.

Got a foggy bathroom mirror? Try shaving cream! Yep place a handful of non gel shaving cream in your hand and smear it on the mirror covering the whole thing, let it sit for 5 mins then wipe it off with a dry cloth, and keep wiping till it’s all gone… next time you have a shower there won’t be a foggy mess to wipe through!  PS: this works on your eye glasses to!!!

Save yourself the trouble of foggy mirrors with this trick

Do you have tarnished Silver? Here’s an easy fix with aluminum foil and baking soda!
1. Line the bottom of enamel or a glass baking dish with a sheet of aluminum foil. (SHINEY SIDE UP!) 2. Fill the foil-lined container with steaming hot water.3. Add salt (sodium chloride) and baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to the water.  Add about 2 tsp baking soda and 1 tsp salt to each 2 inches of water. 4. Drop the silver items into the container so that they are touching each other and resting on the foil. You will be able to watch the tarnish disappear.5. Leave heavily tarnished items in the solution for as long as 5 minutes. Then remove the silver when it appears clean and buff dry!

Oh those beautiful scented candles that you can NEVER light because of the long glass jars! Well here’s a quick solve so those wonderful scents don’t go to waste, use a spaghetti noodle… *smirks* a noodle burns like a long match 🙂 use it to reach the wick in a long jar 🙂 doesn’t smell too bad to once they go out 🙂

Here's a simple trick to get the ends of candles that are bottled. 🙂

OH crap!! Bleep and all those other wonderful words you use when you realize you just dunked your cell phone into a liquid… there goes 100’s of dollars down the drain! BUT not always true! If you’re quick you CAN save your phone! Here’s how.

FOLLOW the directions if you want to save your phone!

1. Take OUT the battery!!! NEVER EVER try to turn it on after it’s gotten wet that’s the FIRST rule! 2. Dry it off as best as you can WITHOUT shaking it! 3 Get some MINUTE rice and a plastic container; pour about a 1/2 inch of rice on the bottom of the container place your battery and phone on this bed of rice then cover it with more rice and place the lid on the container leave it over night. 4. The next morning IF you see condensation or the inside of the container is wet, this means there is A LOT of water in your phone. DO NOT try to turn it on yet… 5. REPEAT steps 1-3 till the container has no moisture in it the next day. Once you’re sure there’s no more moisture then you can place the battery back into your phone and turn it on, 9 times out of 10 your phone WILL work… IF you happened to neglect the “no moisture” rule and still turned on the phone anyway and it did work…You’re either very lucky or about to replace your phone in about a week’s time.

Do you have pesky stray cats that come into your yard and spray or yowl all night? To fix this you can try a few things but my favorite is the VIX trick. Buy a fair sized container of the cheap vix vapor rub from the dollar store. Cats HATE the smell of menthol! Smear it around the bottoms and tops of your fence, or along the edges of your garage doors. You can even heat it in some water and then pour it over outdoor bushes! This is a sure fire way to keep them pesky felines away!

The next thing I am going to let you in on secret wise is dryer sheet tricks of the trade, Hate to dust? Use dryer sheets and dust with them instead, the dust is repelled from the dryer sheet’s special coating and this saves you the headache of dusting every 2 days!

Got a pesky pot with burnt on crap in it you just can’t get out and don’t have an SOS pad or a brillo pad? Save that elbow grease… use a used dryer sheet and put it on the bottom of your pan and let it soak over nightnext morning just WIPE away the burnt on gunk like it never was there!

Dryer sheets will also help you in ridding your windshield and headlights of splattered in dead bugs! Go ahead try it!

Got a gunked up Iron? Well solve that issue by running an iron over a dryer sheet on low and VOLIA the gunk is gone, this works great on curling irons with hair spray build up as well but you will have to use an oven mitt to get the same results.

Dryer sheets also work as a soap scum buster! NO really, a bit of water and a little scrubbing and shower stall windows come crystal clean and stay good for nearly a MONTH!

So to move on the next thing I’m going to teach you is the mighty white gum eraser! VOLIA the creation that has solved the issue of our scuffed vinyl and laminate flooring, got a scuff, just use the eraser and erase it!

OK so everyone has suffered from a cold sore… and they SUCK… but if YOU can deal with a little sting… the next best trick in order to dry that bad boy up in about 2 days is to put a bit of nail polish remover on a cotton ball and dab the sore for a few seconds, do this every 2 hours or so… (Ever 4 is best) *DO NOT SCRUB* usually within 48 hours it’s gone! WARNING: THIS STINGS!!!

So there are my ton and a half simple tips and tricks to make life simple, if you’ve read this and liked it below is a star rating please rate on this and comment if you have a tip or trick of your own! If you’re tried any of the ones listed I’d love to hear the results!
